news 4 at 6:00 starts now. the redskins continue their winning streak topping the philadelphia eagles. the team now just one game away from winning their first division title since 1999. good evening, everyone. i'm jim rosenfield and robert griffin iii made his big return with that knee brace on. jason is here with more on the vakto victory. >> tornado watchesit was a much. the redskins held on for victory. the team still controls their own destiny for a post-season bid. the skins are on top of the nfc east division at six wins in a

row and this team doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. robert griffin iii back under center for the skins and picking up right where he left off. second quarter action, eagles up 7-6. griffin with a swing pass to josh morgan. he would find the end zone. 11-yard touchdown. redskins take a 13-7 lead. third quarter now. skins up 20-13. griffin lofts this one to santana moss. he brings it in for the score. two touchdowns on the day for griffin. skins up 27-13. under ten seconds remaining now, nick foles buying some time, but he gets tracked down by bowen. foles gets rid of it, ruled intentional grounding, a ten second runoff and that's how it would end. redskins hold on to win it 27-20. >> we were playing the best ball that we have all year at the right time. we're rolling, and we all know that. it's been a change in our mindset since after the bye week. i think everybody is just

night travels. more mentions of winter weather down the week. see you in a few. >> okay, chuck. now to the gun control debate. the ceo of the national rifle association appeared today on "meet the press" and doubled down on his support for armed guards in every school in america. >> if it's crazy to call for putting police and armed security in our school to protect our children, then call me crazy. i think the american people think it's crazy not to do it. it's the one thing that would keep people safe. >> the debate over guns and gun control is growing after the shooting in newtown, connecticut. there was a small protest outside a northern virginia gun store this afternoon. darcy spencer is live in falls church tonight with reaction from both sides, darcy. >> reporter: jim, yeah, the rally was held right across the street from here. in this building is that gun shop among other businesses. the gun shop owner says that there has never been a protest here outside of his business

before, but he really didn't have a problem with it because they were exercising their first amendment rights. >> reporter: it was a quiet anti-gun protest of about a dozen people outside the nova firearms gun shop on best broad street in falls church. >> to kill innocent people is immoral, and for the rest of us to allow it to go on is complicit. >> reporter: led by reverend jim birch, protesters are joining the call for a ban on assault style weapons and aim nition and more funding for mental health problems. >> it's document founding to think the answer to violence is to put the weapons of mo more violence in the hands of people. >> reporter: the owner of the gun shop dennis pratt didn't stay inside the store. he cape out and talked to the media. >> i don't understand why they're here exactly. they're exercising their first amendment rights, and we're here just exercising our second amendment rights. >> reporter: and incited by the

national rifle association's call for armed guards in school. pratt said there needs to be more accountability for gun owners, including the mother of adam lanza. >> i think if the firearms were properly secured, this issue would have never happened. i think if the mother would have survived, she probably would have been held accountable for allowing those firearms to be accessed by somebody that was mentally unstable. >> reporter: those here for the protest said the answer is not more guns, rather, more gun control. >> how many people should carry guns? it's the character, the character, the caliber of our character rather than the caliber of our weapon. it's just not right. it's just insanity, insanity. >> reporter: there was a police presence here for the protest today, but it was all peaceful. everyone has gone home and the business has closed for the evening. reporting live from falls church, darcy spencer, news4. >> a parent of one of the survivors is calling on americans to be open-minded

about solutions to school shootings. he's asking people to join him in the online campaign we are better than this. it was started by parents of shooting victims asking for respectful, civil discussions about making the country safer. an update now on a story we first told you about on friday. a missing police dog has been found in northern virginia this afternoon. bronco the police k-9 bk with his handler at the loudoun county sheriff's office. officers found him near ivandale road. bronco escaped from a groomer in leesburg on friday. he's been checked out at a vet and appears to be in good health. fire rips through a 110--year-old home in prince george's county. broke out around noon along princess garden parkway. investigators say it started in the back of the home but they're not sure yet exactly what sparked it. firefighters quickly put the flames out and no one was hurt. a historic boat house facing eviction. why the tenant at jack's boat

the commander of an elite navy s.e.a.l. time died yesterday in afs.

military officials are looking into it as a possible suicide but they're still investigating. 42-year-old job price was commanding officer of s.e.a.l. team 4. he was a native of potstown, pennsylvania, assigned to a unit based in virginia beach. there are eight s.e.a.l. teams deployed around the world. the most famous, s.e.a.l. team 6, carried out the raid that killed osama bin laden. president obama and other dignitaries gathered to remember senator daniel inouye in hawaii. he was buried in honolulu. he was the first japanese american elected to both houses of congress and the second longest serving senator in u.s. history. inouye represented the state of hawaii for nearly 50 years. the the 88-year-old died of respiratory complications last monday. lawmakers are losing hope that a comprehensive deal to avoided fiscal cliff can be reached by the end of year. many are pushing for a patchwork measure. a broader plan to better balance

taxes and cut spending would be discussed in the new year. congress is on break for christmas. they'll only have a few days to get any type of deal done when they return after the holiday. mitt romney's sontagg says his father, quote, wanted to be less than anyone he's het in his life. he made those comments "the boston globe." tagg romney said his father had no desire to become president and would have stepped aside if he had someone to take his place. he described his father as a very private person who doesn't love attention. tagg romney served as an adviser to the 2012 romney campaign. could be the end for jack's boat house. why the historic riverfront rental shop has been told to get out by the end of next month. and we got some sun today but will it last? chuck bell will tell us whether we cou

with less than two days now until christmas, some procrastinators spent their day shopping. we're going to show you a look at the potomac yard shopping center in alexandria where there were a lot of cars, lots of shoppers, a lot of retailers offering last-minute promotions and sales. some mike macy's and target are open 24/7 right up until christmas eve. traveling today seems to be going better than yesterday. here is a live look at reagan national airport where there have been very few issues. almost everything seemed to be arriving and departing on time.

for those hitting the roads, they might find traffic, but they will find lower gas prices, too. prices at the pump have fallen about 12 cents in the last two weeks. according to aaa the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.24 today. it's about what we were paying this time last christmas. virginia actually comes in below the national average at $3.15 a gallon, but it's higher in maryland at $3.30 and the highest in d.c. at $3.42. the tenants of a fixture on the potomac since the 1940s say they're about to be evicted. jack's boat house has been renting canoes in the shadow of the key bridge for decades. the national park service owns the land and recently the operator of the boat house got a letter saying it was time to go. >> found just a form letter saying that we were terminated and had to be out in 30 days, everything had to be out in 30 days. >> he says he's begun the process of notifying boat owners and 27 employees who would be let go if the boat house closes. we've called the park service

for comment but they have not returned our calls. fans of jack's boat house started a facebook page to try to save that landmark. a little chilly out there to be on the potomac today. >> a little chilly. i saw a few folks on their boats but they had the enclosures so it was a little easier. tomorrow is the 27th time that santa rain or shine will be water skiing on the potomac. tomorrow is the time to go down to the river and take a check. >> just in regular gooer? >> santa doesn't need a wet suit. pay attention, it's santa we're talking about. outside today what a great day it was indeed today. plenty of sunshine, pretty much start to finish. you probably noticed, jim, we had six extra seconds of daylight today compared to yesterday. >> oh, yeah. i noticed. >> days are getting longer once again. six extra seconds today. tomorrow we get nine more seconds. the problem is that tomorrow we won't get to see much. sun because of the cloud cover that's coming our way. it's not out there just yet. just a few fair weather clouds drifting in.

42 at national airport. winds have come around to the southwest at 7 miles an hour. they'll be back around to the northwest by early tomorrow morning as a weak little weather front comes on by. current temperatures around the area, mostly in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees. so there's a little hint of a bundle up factor. the big story is really going to be your monday. we'll start out cloudy, cold, and dry. temperatures 20s and 30s. but there will be a cold rain, and i do think it will be cold enough to have at least some sleet pellets mixing in. even as close as the northwestern suburbs of metro washington. it should eventually change all to rain before coming to an end. doesn't look like much on radar around our area just yet. the nearest drops are still down around across far southwestern virginia into northeastern parts of tennessee. it's coming our way but the air mass that's in place over us today is really dry. so the first rain drops are just going to get eaten up by all that dry air and not reach the ground. but that helps cool the atmosphere down and that's the reason i think sleet pellet will be a possibility. clouds returning during the

overnight. you will probably get some breaks of sunshine first thing in the morning but clouds will quickly thicken right back in. cold air will be in place and moisture coming up over the top of that. as the rain drops try to fall through that cold air, we could get some sleet, especially likely out across parts of the shenandoah valley, panhandle of west virginia, northern and western maryland, on up into southern pennsylvania, and a time line on this is late morning through about midafternoon tomorrow. eventually the warm air wins out, changes it all to rain and it comes quickly to an end before midnight tomorrow night and we'll be back in the sunshine just in time for christmas day. so it's not going to last long. here is our microcast model. starting at 11:00 in the morning tomorrow, clouds thickening up. by 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon, the possibility of some sleet pellets really from the western and northern suburbs all the way towards skyline drive and the shenandoah valley. that continues through 6:00 and eventually changes over to all rain and pulls on out. overnight tonight clouds will be on the increase for sure. temperatures generally in the 20s and 30s and your seven-day

jason is back. rg3 getting some help from the dched. >> this team is finding ways to win. no matter if it's a blow out, a close game, they seem to get it done when it matters the most. >> it's a "w." >> that's important. robert griffin iii was back under center in philadelphia and the redskins didn't miss a beat. the skins edged out the eagles keeping their winning streak ali alive, but more importantly they control their own destiny and still have a shot at winning the division, something they haven't done since 1999. rg3 wearing that knee brace ready for action after sitting out a week ago. we pick it up in the second quarter. griffin's defensive teammates helping out the cause. nick foles' pass gets tipped and intercepted by london fletcher. his third int in three straight games. ensuing drive, griffin hits josh morgan and he works his way in for the 11-yard touchdown.

skins up 13-6 now. third quarter, how many times have we said this all season. alfred morris untouched on his way to the end zone. his tenth touchdown at the season. that ties charlie taylor's redskins rookie record. late in the third, griffin to santana moss. 22-yard score. griffin just drops this pass in there beautifully. watch moss drag that left foot. skins go up 27-13. but the game far from over. fourth quarter, griffin makes a rare mistake. his pass for josh morgan is high. morgan tips it, and it's intercepted by colt anderson. griffin's fifth interception of the year. the eagles made him pay six plays later. dion lewis, 17-yard touchdown run. his first of the season. eagles within a touchdown now, down 27-20. same score, eight seconds to play.

all across the league. skins fans are certainly no different. the cowboys were in action at home. dallas still has a chance at making the playoffs despite a heart-breaking loss at home today to a struggling saints team. the battle of nines. tony romo and the cowboys hosting drew brees and the saints. after trailing by as much as 14 in the fourth quarter, romo has the cowboys down 7 and threatening. 21 seconds to go. fourth and ten. he connects with miles austin. 19-yard touchdown. that tied the game at 31 apiece and we're heading to overtime. dallas went 3 and out to start o.t. brees looking to close it out. his pass to colston, he fumbles the ball. graham track it is down and falls on it. he will recover that ball. a bunch of cowboys around him but he comes up with the huge recovery. that would set up hartley's game-winning 20-yard field goal. it's right down the pipes. saints give the redskins an
